Sadollah throws TUF handicapping on its head
asadollah.jpgIf you pay attention to MMA, it’s generally pretty easy to guess who’s going to win each season of The Ultimate Fighter reality television show.

Guys like Diego Sanchez, Joe Stevenson and Mac Danzig were all obvious picks, since each came into his respective season with far more quality experience and from better camps than most of their competitors. Accounting for experience and training partners generally makes it pretty simple to separate the Forrest Griffins from the Josh Raffertys. Granted, there are always surprises -- Gabe Rudiger can pull a Gabe Rudiger or Chris Leben can lose on cuts to Kenny Florian -- but a lot of times it seems like the cast of the Ultimate Fighter is one C.B. Dollaway and 15 Patrick Schultzes.

Enter Amir Sadollah.

So, there’s an EliteXC show this weekend, huh?
Nick DiazWe couldn’t help but notice that just two days before EliteXC’s “Return of the King,” card goes down in Honolulu, Hi., the only mention of the company on the front page of the largest MMA fan forum on the Internet is a thread titled, “Would you leave your woman for Gina Carano?”

As gripping as that question may be, it’s probably not a good thing that just a couple of weeks after putting on the most-watched show in the history of MMA, EliteXC’s follow-up card doesn’t seem to be making much of a dent with fans.

Odd, since Gary Shaw’s promotion has actually has some serious fighters on this weekend’s show.

UFC gets all Tipper Gore on Tito Ortiz

ImageJust a week after UFC President Dana White expressed his distaste for books in an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, it seems he hates one specific book worst of all: “This is Gonna Hurt,” the newly published autobiography of Tito Ortiz.

Ortiz was recently served a cease and desist request from his one-time employer, because the book’s cover features a photo of the former light heavyweight champion wearing the UFC title belt. Zuffa, the UFC’s parent company, contends the belt is its intellectual property and that blah, blah, blah, kvetch, kvetch.

One thing we like about the UFC, they are always finding new ways to totally not surprise us.
